Omaha Semi Truck AccidentAccording to a report by Omaha.com, the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the first fatality of 2014 in the state of Nebraska.

The 34-year-old male victim of a car-semi truck collision died on January 3. Officials said he was driving on a county road south of Wahoo when he failed to acknowledge a stop sign. As he passed through the intersection, his Toyota Camry was hit by a semi driven by a 50-year-old woman.

The devastated Camry was hauled several hundred feet east by the truck before it came to a complete stop.

According to The Associated Press, the Saunders County Chief Deputy said that the victim was on his way to Wahoo from Lincoln and that his brother, who was driving behind him at the time of the accident, witnessed the tragic scene unfold.

All motor vehicle accidents have the potential to cause much suffering, but semi-truck accidents are especially devastating due to the sheer weight and force that are behind these mechanical behemoths. That is why truckers and trucking companies have many regulations they must adhere to in order to keep themselves and others safe. Additionally, manufacturers of trucks and truck parts must uphold a standard of quality in the production process to ensure that no defective product goes out and leads to mechanical failure and consequently great harm. If these parties fail to fulfill their expectations and cause an accident as a result, they may be held liable for any damages.

The Omaha semi-truck accident attorneys who are also physicians at Cullan & Cullan, LLC are truly sorry for this young man’s loss and give their condolences to the victim’s loved ones.
