Semi-Truck Collision on Interstate 80 Kills Trucker Couple

By Omaha Personal Injury Attorney on December 31, 2013

According to a report by JournalStar.com, on December 19, crews on the Interstate 80 finished clearing the debris from a disastrous semi-truck accident that killed a husband-and-wife trucker couple. The clean-up made it possible for state troopers to re-open the West O Street on-ramp.

The family members of the two deceased truck drivers were contacted by the authorities after the accident. The names of the victims will not be released until they are positively identified, said a State Patrol spokeswoman.

A neighbor of the trucker couple knew them as generous, amiable, and dependable people. Because they were long-haul truckers, they would be absent for months at a time. However, when back at home, they would throw backyard barbecues and immediately warm up to acquaintances despite their long absences.

The married truckers were hauling dry goods for U.S. Xpress Enterprises at the time of the accident. Investigators initially believed that the woman was operating the truck around noontime when it swerved off the interstate. Further investigation yielded evidence that pointed to the husband as the driver of the truck at the time of the incident. The wife may have been resting in the truck’s sleeper berth, according to patrol agents.

Both sides of the I-80 were closed for some time due to the accident.

The Omaha semi-truck accident attorneys at Cullan & Cullan, LLC are saddened by the deaths of these tragic victims. They offer their condolences to their surviving family members and hope they will find peace.
