Honda Recalls 20,800 Lawnmowers in the United States
The U.S.-manufactured products were sold nationwide at Honda equipment dealers and Home Depot stores from January through December in 2013. Their purchase price was between $580 and $780.
A design defect involving the lawnmower's blade forced Honda to issue the recall. The company received 11 similar accounts of the blade failing to arrest rotation upon release of the handlebar control level. After conducting an inspection of the affected lawnmowers, they determined that the defect posed a laceration hazard to consumers.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The affected Honda brand lawnmowers were sold in two color variations: red and silver (HRR) and red and gray (HRX). The word "Honda" can be found on the engine cover. The model and serial numbers, which are written on a certification label located behind the engine, of the recalled lawnmowers are:
- Model number HRR2169VLA with serial numbers ranging from MZCG-8764914 - MZCG-8824353.
- Model number HRX2174VLA with serial numbers ranging from MAGA-2255148 - MAGA-2260227.
Consumers are highly advised to arrest all usage of the recalled lawnmowers immediately and to contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer. They will receive a repair, free of charge.
